About:
QJot is a relatively small alternative rich text editor that saves .doc files,
inserts images and more. It is basically meant to serve as a good WordPad
replacement. It supports Unicode and runs under Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
Its native format is RTF, but it can open, edit and save Word and WordPerfect
files (though not with all of their features). It can be used with any script
that is supported by Windows and for which a font and a keyboard driver are
installed, including right-to-left scripts. QJot can run from a floppy as well.

Outstanding bugs:

Print preview causes two extra pages to print (caused by a third party component
which I am looking into changing)

Sometimes hotkey doesn't work for undoing text formatting, eg., bold, italic, etc.

* As of v4.0.6, the spellchecker was replaced with integration with the
  WordWeb program (http://wordweb.info/free/).

900kb space (D/L size)

WordWeb use:

To use WordWeb with QJot, first download and install the free version of
WordWeb from http://wordweb.info/free/
From there, anytime you select a word in QJot, and then select WordWeb Lookup
from QJot's "Tools" menu, the WordWeb dialog will appear with definitions, proper
spelling, synonyms, and usage of the given word.

If you select "Copy" from the WordWeb dialog, it will replace the selected word
in QJot, with the replacement one you choose from the WordWeb dialog. The WordWeb
dialog will close, as well as that program's thread.

If there is no text selected in QJot, then you will be offered a dialog to lookup
a word in WordWeb.

No More Spellchecker?

As of version v4.0.5, the spell checker was replaced. I feel that bundling one
with this program would make it too large, and defeat the purpose of keeping its
size small.

However, there is a great solution for this issue: download a program called
"TinySpell" from http://www.megspace.com/computers/tinyspell/

This fine, free program can do effective spellchecking, not only in a program
such as QJot, but also any program: Outlook Express, Notepad, WordPad, etc.

The program, TinySpell, is free and very small at under 600kb!

Known Bugs:

* Error message "Remote RPC Sever Unavailable"
This occurs when the "print spooler" is not running. QJot's font drop-down list
needs to enumerate the installed system fonts from it.

You can activate it by
starting the "Computer Management Panel" by entering "compmgmt.msc" into the
Run menu, found on your start menu. Then select "Print Spooler" from the
"Services" tab. This will run the Print Spooler, which in most systems
is found in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe"

* Error messages relating to no fonts defined, or other error messages related
to font setting:
This is caused when there are no default fonts defined on a system. To correct
this follow the following instructions:
1) On the Start menu, select the "Run" command. Or, alternately hold down the
Windows key and the "R" key simultaneously.
2) Enter "sysdm.cpl" to launch the system properties dialog. Sometimes, you can
also find this dialog under the listed control panel apelets in your file manager.
3) Select the "Add Hardware Wizard" from the System Properties dialog.
4) When you see the question "Is the hardware connected?", select the "YES"
radio button.
5) When asked "What do you want the wizard to do? Select "Install the hardware
that I manually select from a list(Advanced)
6) From that list of "Installed Hardware" list box, scroll to the bottom and
select "Add A New Hardware Device"
7) From the "List of Hardware that you are installing, select "Printers"
8) From the "Add Printer Wizard", select Generic - Generic/Text Only printer
9) When prompted to install "Generic/Text Only" printer, select next.
10) This should correct the problem.

Known Shortcomings:
* No Print Preview

Future Plans:
* I am actively looking for a way to implement (basic) support for tables and
pdf export.
